Moody moody moody

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Late night black and white photos of Daphne and David at the Skirball Center up in Mullholland Drive in LA. We love these moments at our events. All the drama of the day is past and this is often the first time the couple get some married time on their own. Apart from us discretely pointing a camera or two at them, that is.

Reception Games

Check out the bouquet toss! Then the stealthy garter access, then the great table shots, and the sexy shutter draggin’ dancing shots. “To the left, to the left, to the right, to the right…” Heh!

Low Light Wedding Ceremony Magic

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Although this very late afternoon outdoor patio setting at The Skirball Center creates challenges for us as photographers due to the very low light conditions, it allows incredibly magical moments for the exchange of vows. The couple here asked our advice about light for this, and we recommended what you see here. Keep it simple and enhance what the mood is gonna be like at the time of day that your ceremony is taking place!

Group Photos and The Reception

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Many wedding photographers don’t really enjoy doing group sometimes known as “stand up” shots. We regard it as a critical part of the job! This is where we capture the who’s who in a visual record for future generations. It’s more about seeing who everyone is rather than great art or being clever with the camera. And then, to the fun reception photos!!

Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

It is really important to many people to respect the traditions of their heritage. We have covered many Chinese weddings over the past few years and we find tea ceremonies to be a fascinating piece of living history – respect to the older generation, wedding gifts exchanged, and always with much dignity, and of course fun too! Here’s the funny thing with this wedding, we knew more about the way this is usually performed than the couple did!

From the Canadian Chilly Winter to the Californian Calm Balm

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

David, the groom and his family are from Toronto, Canada. Quite a difference, weather-wise! And here he is with his groomsmen. Well, not entirely; the gentleman with the shaved head was actually one of the “ladies in waiting”, known these days as a “bridesman”.  And I don’t think we have ever shot a wedding where folk traveled from SO many places. I started writing them down after a few were called out so I have probably missed a few – China, Hong Kong, Germany, England, Germany, New York, Texas, Florida, San Francisco, Austin and of course a good representation from Southern California – if any one from the wedding is reading this, drop us a line and let us know the rest!
